If you turn up on your Ducati expecting a perfectly fluffy latte & a panini while you brush the flies off your Belstaff jacket then you’ll sadly be crying in your corderoy pants as the best you’ll get is a bacon bap and a decent brew with no decorum. No bells or whistles, just coffee, greasy spoon grub and somewhere to sit with your other biker mates to talk about lager & boobs. For someone not even staring at 40 yet, Ace gives you a feel of the old cafe racer scene. You walk in to Ace and you get that vibe that most seaside towns give you, definitely the place to be in years gone by but now struggling in a different world with different people. The equivalent of going on a date with a young double jointed pornstar on Monday, and then grabbing dinner with one eyed Barbara from the local Spar on Tuesday……who was apparently quite the woman back in 1994……see where I’m going with this? beforehand, as sadly it casts a shadow over Ace that it can’t really contend. To every British biker young & old, Ace carries a reputation as one of the UK’s motorcycle Meccas, a place to visit at least once in some kind of weird petrol pilgrimage.Īll I can say is don’t go to the Bike Shed in Shoreditch.
